NAKAYA original fountain pen, Cigar
Model $415〜
Screw type cap with no band, cap,
barrel and section are made of ebonite lacquered with Wajima
urushi.
This model is very long and is supposed to
be used without posting the cap when writing. As ebonite is a
very light material it is possible to make the barrel thicker
and longer. Therefore the balance point can be set easier
to provide comfortable writing for everyone.

In addition to our already
launched "Shu" items, we added un-polished new "Shu" in the
range.
Since the technique does not go
through the polishing process after the paintwork
is finished, it is called "self-indulgence
paint".
When selecting the materials, the craftsman needs
to pay very attention. THe paint
becomes defective if there is any failure in paint due to
the fact that there is no post-processing of paint. This
is the reason why this surface is
popular for a long times. |

people have admired pines or evergreens as the symbol of the
vitality of plants as well as immortality. The color in this
photograph is a little darker than the actual product. If you

| Pens that have a colored urushi
lacquer finish such as "Arai-shu" and "Midori" will become
even more brilliant as the urushi itself becomes more
translucent with the passage of time. So the color of the pen
at the time you receive it will change and
improve. |

"Tame" means "pool" and "nuri" refers to the
lacquer coating process.
You can actually see through the
layers of clear urushi lacquer as if you were looking into a
pool.
Wajima artists use "shu urushi" (red color) for the
base urushi on the barrel,
and "shu-ai-urushi" (mixtures
of red and clear lacquer) for the finish coats.

Nakaya has finally added "Heki-tamenuri "
(blue/green-tamenuri) to our regular product line from our
trial products.
Introduced now is the writer model
(long/portable) of this color, the cigar model is also
available.
Please have a look at the color of this
model "Heki-tamenuri ".
"Heki" is the color between blue
and green. It is one of the Japanese traditional
colors.
"Tamenuri" means the technique which is the same
one as Wajima artists use to make "Kuro-tamenuri " (blackish
red -tamenuri-).
In the recent three years,
"Kuro-tamenuri " is the most popular model at Nakaya.
Many
of our customers all over the world asked us if we could
make a blueish green version of "Kuro-tamenuri ".
As you
might know, urushi lacquer painting doesn't have a concept of
blue or bluish color traditionally. So Wajima artists need a
few years to succeed in expressing beautiful bluish green just
like "Kuro-tamenuri ".
The color will become more brilliant
as the urushi itself becomes more translucent with the passage
of time. The color of the pen will change and improve from the
time you recieve it.

As we
know, Urushi lacquer painting doesn't have a concept of
blue or bluish color traditionally. So Wajima artists
use some paints to express bluish, After some process
such as "Roiro", the bright color becomes a little
darker, of course it will be brighter after three months
because the Urushi will become clear. However, Nakaya
expresses purple by maki-e method not painting in this
time.
An artist must take much time in sprinkling
powder and polishing it up. Since a pen barrel has steep
curve, to polish(togi) especially at the top of pen
barrel is very difficult. Even a craftsman who
has experience does this over again and again.
After some trial and error, Nakaya finally completed a
beautiful Purple color. Nakaya call this purple color
"Shobu".
"Shobu" is
familiar flower among Japanese people. Traditionally,
people trust a leaf of "shobu"to avoid an evil thing, so
on May 5th (Japanese children's holiday), we Japanese
put these leaf into the bathtub . |

(Caution) As you know, the screw of Nakaya
cap has four entrance in order to close a
cap promptly.
On the other hand, Nakaya
designs 10 aspects of a cap and a barrel of
theDecapod model are flat when you close a
cap.
You can make the same aspect by only one
enterance of screw.
(For sealing the nib, this is no
problems by using all of these four entrance of the
screw. )

''Twist'' model Heki-tame version $650
As you see below,
we made a teist axis based on the decapod model.
It
is a very difficult process to make only decapod axis, we twisted
the barrel as well.
Further more,it is almost impossible job to
polish up each plane to make smoothness after doing Tame-nuri
finish by twisting hands.
Making a barrel, twisted polishing
process are very difficult work ,so that a concentration
of all difficult techniques took over one year and
at
last it became possible to show to
everybody. You can have a look at
