Cigar Piccolo SHAKEI-SONSETSU

The motif comes from the Shakei-Sonsetsu, a four-character idioms.
It means to study even if one is in a very difficult situation.
The four-character idioms comes from the story that Che Yin, a old Chinese politician read under the weak light of firefly in summer, and Sun Kang, a old Chinese official read with the moon light reflected by snow in winter.

Writer Portable BAMBOO SERENITY

Bamboo woods motif is expressed with the Aka-tamesukashi technique.  To create depth of bamboo woods and express fine bamboo leaves, draw some bamboos with tame-sukashi technique and making another layer of bamboo drawings overlapping the previous layer using Tame-sukashi technique.
Some bamboos are drawn on the grip section with Tame-sukashi technique.

Writer Portable AUTUMN COLORS

A lot of autumn leaves are drawn with Aka-tamesukashi technique. By making it 2 layers, the result is a deep finish with added depth.
For the grip section, finish of dense sprinkling with gold powders “Nashiji” technique is used and some leaves are drawn on it with Yako maki-e technique as an accent.

Cigar Long SUIGYO　

A fish swimming slowly in the water is expressed using Raden. The motif is drawn by pasting thinly cut seashells one by one.
A fish is drawn on the cap and a stream of water is drawn on the barrel.
The cool colors, Shobu is used for the base, imagining “in the water”.

Cigar Long SPERM WHALE & GIANT SQUID　

The design on this pen represents a fight between a sperm whale and a giant squid unfolding in the deep sea.

The whale is finished with Sumiko and the squid with Taka-Makie.

This provides a wonderful contrast, which is further accented by a stream of water in Raden.

Cigar Long OWL & MOON

The black background without blurring clearly highlights the owl motif.

This pen is expressed ‘Owl’ under the layer of “Aka-tamenuri” technique.

Cigar Piccolo Ishigaki

The broken shells are carefully pasted one by one and coated with black urushi lacquer.
Coating with black lacquer and polishing to leave a level difference, gives a finish that resembles a stone wall.

Cigar Long AOSUJI AGEHA (Common Bluebottle)　

The motif is “Aosuji Ageha” which has a beautiful blue-green wing pattern that inhabit mainly in urban areas in Japan (south of Tohoku).
The beautiful blue-green lines of its characteristic wings are fantastically expressed with Raden.
A butterfly on the cap is drawn by charcoal powder piling up, and the details also are drawn with fine lines of charcoal powders.
The blue-green lines on the wings are expressed by pasting finely cut iridescent shells.
At the bottom of the body, crushed noctilucent shells were sprended to create a gradation.
By using Kuroiro as the base color, the entire design is unified with the black and blue-green image of the Aosuji Ageha, and creating a sophisticated and beautiful finish.

Cigar Long WILD DRAGON

This is a popular dragon motif. Designed with the image of a Japanese dragon, with a more ferocious facial expression than ascending dragon. A jewel is held in the dragon’s hand, and a magatama, an ancient Japanese ornamental stone is inside the jewel. A dragon’s claw designed like a tomoe crest is drawn in the grip section.
