Cigar Piccolo ENJOYING THE MOON CAT　

The design is based on the theme of cats enjoying the moon. The two cats and the footprints on the grip section are drawn with “Yako Maki-e” technique. The moon is drawn with “Tamesukashi” technique. Base color is “Aka-tamenuri”.
“Yako Maki-e” is Nakaya’s original name for the technique that drawing motifs with black lacquer on “tamenuri” base. As the Tamenuri background becomes brighter over time, the black lacquered motifs become more apparent.

Cigar Portable AKITSUSHIMA　

The design is expressed a lot of dragonflies flying around using “Yako Maki-e” technique on the “Byakudannuri” base. The design name “Akitsushima” is another name for Japan, and “Akitsu” is the old name for dragonfly.
It is designed based on an image of countless dragonflies flying in a forest at dusk. The flying dragonflies are carefully depicted one by one. Also some dragonflies are drawn on the grip section.
For the base color, amber “Byakudannuri” is used to express the image of dusk.

“Byakudannuri” is the technique that painting the base in black, applying a transparent lacquer such as “shuai urushi”, and sprinkling silver powder on it, then again painting the entire surface with transparent lacquer and polish to finish. It is brighter than “Tamenuri” and has a beautiful reflection slightly fluctuating by light.

Cigar Portable FOREST OF OWL

A wide variety of owl motifs are drawn on the “Byakudannuri” base using “Yako Maki-e” technique so that they are scattered throughout.
It is designed as the image of various owls spending their time in the forest.
The motif of owl wings is drawn with “Yako Maki-e” to the grip section.

“Byakudannuri” is the technique that painting the base in black, applying a transparent lacquer urushi, and sprinkling silver powder on it, then again painting the entire surface with transparent lacquer and polish to finish. It is brighter than “Tamenuri” and has a beautiful reflection slightly fluctuating by light.

Cigar Piccolo AMANOGAWA

The design inspired by the “Milky Way” shining in the night sky is expressed with Raden.
A lots of fine shellfish (Mijin shellfish) of different sizes are used and put them in a spiral pattern with a gradation.
By making the base in black (KuroRoiro), the shine of Raden stands out, creating a finish that looks just like the Milky Way shining in the night sky.

Cigar Portable MANTEN

A starry sky is expressed by scattering small shellfish all over the black (KuroRoiro) base. Then the Milky Way more shining brightly is drawn in a spiral pattern in the starry sky. Also shellfishes are spread all over the grip section to create the feeling of a starry sky.
It has a more gorgeous and glittering finish than “Milky Way”.

Writer Portable WILD STRAWBERRY　

Based on Yakou Maki-e technique, we lay out several seashells (Raden).
Though we used many pieces of big shells in abundance and looks gorgeous, this artwork settled down the background kept the entire settled balance by Tame-nuri background.

Cigar Long KARASU

Based on the crow painting from Yosa Buson’s signature work, “Kite and Crow”, it is expressed in Yako Makie.
The old tree and two crows were drawn using “Yako Maki-e” technique, and the snow is drawn by silver powder.
And branches of old tree covered with snow is drawn on the grip section using also “Yako Maki-e” technique.
Using “Yako Maki-e” technique made it possible to successfully express a calm and somber atmosphere of Ink brush painting (sumi-e).
The base color is “Aka-tamenuri”.

Cigar Piccolo SHAKEI-SONSETSU

The motif comes from the Shakei-Sonsetsu, a four-character idioms.
It means to study even if one is in a very difficult situation.
The four-character idioms comes from the story that Che Yin, a old Chinese politician read under the weak light of firefly in summer, and Sun Kang, a old Chinese official read with the moon light reflected by snow in winter.

D-17 Portable BAT

We expressed bats flying around freely in the middle of the night by Yakomakie (gold Makie).
The moon is drawn by Tame-Sukashi technique and clouds are thinly colored black on gold Maki-e.

Cigar Portable Hagi

We described “Hagi (bush clover)” by the “Yako Maki-e” technique. This motif has many bowstrings so that the contrast of this motif’s edge of the line has also so many. This picture is taken after 1 month from the production. You can see the color slightly changed to red from the edge. As same as “Tame-sukashi” technique, the background in “shu” (red) becomes brighter as time passes. In case of Yako-nuri technique, the main motif (bush clover) is heaped up by black urushi, so this motif shines clearly with bright Shu color as background.
