Cigar Piccolo ENJOYING THE MOON CAT　

The design is based on the theme of cats enjoying the moon. The two cats and the footprints on the grip section are drawn with “Yako Maki-e” technique. The moon is drawn with “Tamesukashi” technique. Base color is “Aka-tamenuri”.
“Yako Maki-e” is Nakaya’s original name for the technique that drawing motifs with black lacquer on “tamenuri” base. As the Tamenuri background becomes brighter over time, the black lacquered motifs become more apparent.

Cigar Portable FOX & HARVEST MOON　

A fox and the moon are drawn with Tamesukashi technique. To express white fur, if it is just put silver powders on the motif drawn with tamesukashi, only the parts will be appear to stand out. So, after drawing the fox with Tame Sukashi technique, adding transparent amber lacquer to the entire surface of the motif to create a slightly plump relief shape. Then, splinkleing silver powders to the abdomen and tip of tail to express white fur. The pampas grasses are drawn with Yako Maki-e technique to give it depth.

Cigar Long RED ASCENDING DRAGON

The motif is the populer dragon. This is an ascending dragon design based on an old Chinese painting, which symbolizes healthy growth of children and the fulfillment of great wishes. The motif is drawn using silver powder and paint lacquer that has transparency on it. This is the Tame-sukashi technique let motifs to be seen through. The base color is Aka-tamenuri which is vermilion base paint and Shuai-urushi (transparent amber color lacquer) on the base. A cloud is drawn in gold under the screw, and a jewel ball is drawn on the grip section using the Tame-sukashi technique.
“Tame-sukashi” technique is a technique adding Maki-e taste to Tame-nuri. Drawing motifs with Maki-e on the base, and paint highly transparent Shuai lacquer. As time goes by, the top coat lacquer becomes more transparent, you can enjoy the changes to see through the ground color and maki-e.

Cigar Piccolo AMANOGAWA

The design inspired by the “Milky Way” shining in the night sky is expressed with Raden.
A lots of fine shellfish (Mijin shellfish) of different sizes are used and put them in a spiral pattern with a gradation.
By making the base in black (KuroRoiro), the shine of Raden stands out, creating a finish that looks just like the Milky Way shining in the night sky.

Cigar Portable MANTEN

A starry sky is expressed by scattering small shellfish all over the black (KuroRoiro) base. Then the Milky Way more shining brightly is drawn in a spiral pattern in the starry sky. Also shellfishes are spread all over the grip section to create the feeling of a starry sky.
It has a more gorgeous and glittering finish than “Milky Way”.

Palmetto pattern is expressed using “Chinkin” technique with color powders.  

The colorful flowers are different from monochromatic ones, resulting in a gorgeous and beautiful finish.

Cigar Piccolo HOUSOGE (Colorful Lines)　

“Housoge” pattern is expressed using “Chinkin” technique with color powders.
Whole body including the grip section is decorated with the pattern.
The colorful flowers drawn by color “Chinkin” create a fascinating beauty that is different from single color “Chinkin”.
Since the base color is black, the pattern with colors looks most vivid and beautiful on it.

“Housoge” is an imaginary flower that is believed to bloom in the heaven. Along with palmetto, it is one of the most popular arabesque patterns. The “Housoge” pattern is also used for decolating the strings instruments in the Shosoin as an auspicious pattern.

The high contrast of the black base color and the gold of “Chinkin” pattern makes the finish really gorgeous.
