Cigar Piccolo ENJOYING THE MOON CAT　

The design is based on the theme of cats enjoying the moon. The two cats and the footprints on the grip section are drawn with “Yako Maki-e” technique. The moon is drawn with “Tamesukashi” technique. Base color is “Aka-tamenuri”.
“Yako Maki-e” is Nakaya’s original name for the technique that drawing motifs with black lacquer on “tamenuri” base. As the Tamenuri background becomes brighter over time, the black lacquered motifs become more apparent.

Cigar Portable AKITSUSHIMA　

The design is expressed a lot of dragonflies flying around using “Yako Maki-e” technique on the “Byakudannuri” base. The design name “Akitsushima” is another name for Japan, and “Akitsu” is the old name for dragonfly.
It is designed based on an image of countless dragonflies flying in a forest at dusk. The flying dragonflies are carefully depicted one by one. Also some dragonflies are drawn on the grip section.
For the base color, amber “Byakudannuri” is used to express the image of dusk.

“Byakudannuri” is the technique that painting the base in black, applying a transparent lacquer such as “shuai urushi”, and sprinkling silver powder on it, then again painting the entire surface with transparent lacquer and polish to finish. It is brighter than “Tamenuri” and has a beautiful reflection slightly fluctuating by light.

Cigar Portable FOX & HARVEST MOON　

A fox and the moon are drawn with Tamesukashi technique. To express white fur, if it is just put silver powders on the motif drawn with tamesukashi, only the parts will be appear to stand out. So, after drawing the fox with Tame Sukashi technique, adding transparent amber lacquer to the entire surface of the motif to create a slightly plump relief shape. Then, splinkleing silver powders to the abdomen and tip of tail to express white fur. The pampas grasses are drawn with Yako Maki-e technique to give it depth.

Cigar Portable FOREST OF OWL

A wide variety of owl motifs are drawn on the “Byakudannuri” base using “Yako Maki-e” technique so that they are scattered throughout.
It is designed as the image of various owls spending their time in the forest.
The motif of owl wings is drawn with “Yako Maki-e” to the grip section.

“Byakudannuri” is the technique that painting the base in black, applying a transparent lacquer urushi, and sprinkling silver powder on it, then again painting the entire surface with transparent lacquer and polish to finish. It is brighter than “Tamenuri” and has a beautiful reflection slightly fluctuating by light.

Cigar Long RYUKYU

The bright vermilion color is painted maki-e with floral motifs inspired by Ryukyu Bingata in Okinawa.

Cigar Long DRAGONS IN THE CLOUDS

It is expressed that dragons appear from clouds. The body of each dragon are described by Togi-kiri-Maki-e technique with silver powders. Clouds also are drawn with silver powders using Bokashi (gradation) technique. And for Ka-en (A fire flame), also using silver powders slightly mixed up with Shu (dark red) powders, by Togi-kiri Maki-e technique. This Togi-kiri Maki-e technique is used to create a texture similar to sumi-e (ink painting).
By using black as the base, the dragon drawn in silver stands out and make a powerful finish.

Cigar Long RED ASCENDING DRAGON

The motif is the populer dragon. This is an ascending dragon design based on an old Chinese painting, which symbolizes healthy growth of children and the fulfillment of great wishes. The motif is drawn using silver powder and paint lacquer that has transparency on it. This is the Tame-sukashi technique let motifs to be seen through. The base color is Aka-tamenuri which is vermilion base paint and Shuai-urushi (transparent amber color lacquer) on the base. A cloud is drawn in gold under the screw, and a jewel ball is drawn on the grip section using the Tame-sukashi technique.
“Tame-sukashi” technique is a technique adding Maki-e taste to Tame-nuri. Drawing motifs with Maki-e on the base, and paint highly transparent Shuai lacquer. As time goes by, the top coat lacquer becomes more transparent, you can enjoy the changes to see through the ground color and maki-e.

Cigar Piccolo BUTTERFLY　

The butterfly that symbolizes human growth, change, and beauty, are used as a motif.
Pasting thinly pressed gold powders to the butterfly, and drawing the outline and overlay of butterfly wings with color grinding gold.
The gold lines are expressed pasting thinly pressed gold powders and covered the edges with urushi.
The black lacquer base makes the butterfly wings even more beautiful and stand out.

Cigar Portable GOLDFISHES

Goldfishes and aquatic plants are drawn with the Maki-e technique. Goldfishes are expressed with polishing technique of Shu kin and silver. And their scales and lines of fins are drawn by gold powder, their eyes are drawn by silver and black.
The bubbles and the aquatic plants are expressed delicately with Maki-e.
By using black as the base, the beauty of Maki-e with gold and silver stands out, and creating a luxurious finish.

Cigar Portable ROSES

The standard color, Shu(vermilion) is used for the base and rose motifs are drawn on it with ivory white.
The design was inspired by the ivory combs and hairpins decorated using Shu(vermilion) color during the Edo period. The motifs are drawn with caring the balance between the rose flowers and vines and the Shu(vermilion) in the base color.
Due to drawing the rose motif in traditional colors, it creates a beautiful retro-modern atmosphere.
