Cigar Long SPERM WHALE & GIANT SQUID　

The design on this pen represents a fight between a sperm whale and a giant squid unfolding in the deep sea.

The whale is finished with Sumiko and the squid with Taka-Makie.

This provides a wonderful contrast, which is further accented by a stream of water in Raden.

Cigar Piccolo SHURO　

A design boldly arranging the palm leaves motifs. The characteristic powerful leaves of the palm are drawn on a vermilion base using silver Taka Maki-e to create hight. Also a palm leaf is drawn with gold taka Maki-e on the grip section.
The bright vermilion color goes well with the silver color of the fan-shaped palm leaves, creating a somewhat exotic finish.

Cigar Long DESERT MOON

An exotic landscape is depicted in maki-e.
This work effectively combines simple techniques.
The ground and the night sky are finished with different sizes of polished gold nashiji ground, and a trading party of camels going through the desert is represented by yako maki-e.

Cigar Long OWL & MOON

The black background without blurring clearly highlights the owl motif.

Cigar Long OWL

Kuro-roiro(black) is used for the base so that the gold color stands out. The owl motif is drawn with the Gin-yuji pile up technique and the gold Maki-e technique.
Because Raden(mother-of-pearl) are used for the eyes, the color of the owl’s eyes may look different depending on how the light reflects.
The grasses are expressed with a polishing technique that uses gold Maki-e on iro urushi (colored lacquer).

This pen is expressed ‘Owl’ under the layer of “Aka-tamenuri” technique.

Cigar Long MAKI　

Cigar Piccolo Ishigaki

The broken shells are carefully pasted one by one and coated with black urushi lacquer.
Coating with black lacquer and polishing to leave a level difference, gives a finish that resembles a stone wall.

Cigar Long AOSUJI AGEHA (Common Bluebottle)　

The motif is “Aosuji Ageha” which has a beautiful blue-green wing pattern that inhabit mainly in urban areas in Japan (south of Tohoku).
The beautiful blue-green lines of its characteristic wings are fantastically expressed with Raden.
A butterfly on the cap is drawn by charcoal powder piling up, and the details also are drawn with fine lines of charcoal powders.
The blue-green lines on the wings are expressed by pasting finely cut iridescent shells.
At the bottom of the body, crushed noctilucent shells were sprended to create a gradation.
By using Kuroiro as the base color, the entire design is unified with the black and blue-green image of the Aosuji Ageha, and creating a sophisticated and beautiful finish.
